What Happened To Izzi net Malaysia ISP? R.I.P.

by Ariffin Ariff

in Misc Stuffs

Just found out a Malaysia Internet Service Provider has closed for good. And that’s not a happy news. Izzi net is the best Malaysia wireless internet broadband ISP I have subscribed.

izziIts official website at www.izzi.com.my is there no more. Prior to this, there is no announcement on their website, early notice nor any information were given to their subscribers. Their subscribers were left in the dark when there was no internet access at all (although the subscriber can still connected) for several days. Nobody is answering the customer hotline (the line is  still available).

After three days of calls with no reply, one of my friend went to its office in Menara Olympia, Jalan Raja Chulan and to his horror the company already winded up. Nobody in the office anymore except one man whose task there is to assist claim for any subscriber who still has subscription balance.

I have 28 days subscription left and look like my RM88 went down the drain, according to that man you can only claim for refund if your subscription balance is over one month.

Other ISP could be happy with this (less competitor) but it is not good for us, one less choice and competitor for ISP to compete with.

I have noticed a few internet disruption since early of 2011 and did suspect something is wrong. Even the official website haven’t been updated for so long and the last update I notice was in 2009.  My opinion is Izzinet didn’t spent much on marketing except probably in its first year (2007/2008) and that’s probably why their subscribers base didn’t increase much (while other ISP on marketing frenzy). Subscriber entry cost is higher for Izzi since you need to pay one whole year in advance and this could be a reason too.  Or maybe there is other deep problem that we may never know.  Anyway, I am sure many  big companies would be able to buy over  Izzi especially when Izzi already have the ISP licence and infrastructure.  (I am not sure of the financial sheet though.)

I mentioned earlier that Izzinet is the best wireless ISP provider I have subscribed. I will tell you why in my next post with the hope that we can suggest other ISP to adapt a certain aspect of Izzinet’s policy.

izzinet

Adios to Izzinet, after so many years.

Agness and Leongwhg, you both better hurry to Izzinet HQ Menara Olympia, Jalan Raja Chulan. Get the claim form from the man at the front counter. Better go there as soon a possible before that man also gone (he is the only one person there now). Don’t walk there, run. (although it’s within a walking distance from LRT Masjid Jamek.)

COmplaints bureau said to put in a form but i am skeptical about the whole thing. whos gonna pay? the directors are all gone.

Pl,
I agree with you on that, the probability to get refund is slim.
In fact making complain via tthe normal forum http://www.complaint.cfm.org.my/ will not do much at this stage. Make offical claim (through lawyer if you can) , Izzi Net as a company still exist, only the service is no more.

I was wondering what the hell happened to Izzi. Now I have to sign up for another service provider and spend unnecessarily on registration fees and what not. It’s a pity Izzi is gone, it was fast and hardly had problems until it bungkus for good.

I don’t think these matter under Suruhanjaya Komunikasi & Multimedia Malaysia anymore.

Insane,

I hope this will not drive you insane but you don’t get refund immediately at the counter. The man at the counter is there just to assist you on claiming by giving you a form and submit to him.

Hope the others who already made the claim can give feedback on this.

Doesn’t it tell us not to trust small time fly-by-night companies? This is Malaysia.. anything boleh..

Damn! they should inform us and do the necessary closure before closing for good rather than leaving us in the dark, i really cant tolerate such services, not appreciating their customers.

YYY,

Try calling the newspaper hotline instead of writing (that’s slow). Malaymail has the hotline for this type of thing.
You’re talking about refund, is it? Have you visit Izzi office? Don’t waste time calling nobody answering. Also try the contact the parent company.

Somehow I think creditors (bank) is ‘holding’ the company now to disolve and recover what ever they can get. Jabatan Insolvensi is the one we should call now.

I’m working on an article right now about this to publish in a magazine and I’m interested in quoting from this site and/or perhaps getting a comment from the perspective of an IZZInet end user.

While you may not be keen on sharing the reasons why you think IZZInet was the best (and I actually do second your believe that it was the best), perhaps you might be more comfortable sharing it over email. My submission will be due in a few days time.

For the record, I too was a subscriber since 2007 up til the day they went bust. I wonder what went wrong…

Jonathan Sia,

You’re so wrong. Try getting your account terminated, and you’ll find it’s impossible. These people will continue to autodebit your card, which happened to me.

Reply

uLikmayA bLogger April 20, 2011

Ask your bank to cancel the autodebit.

Probably too late for your article but I will write something on this on my next post (anyway).

If you wonder what went wrong, try digging what went wrong with another dead ISP – MOBIF.
(mobif was dead before Izzi come out)

This is a SCAM….my credit card was over charged several times before this happened and many of you as well!!!!

Maybe the parent company has taken all the money!!!

Autodebit? Ask your bank to cancel it yourself, don’t trust the payment receiver to do that.

Izzi is seriously a big con job. They continue to charge me (autodebit) after my account termination (which was confirmed by that idiot Mr Wilson Lim…yeah I wanna put this on record) since July 2010. Which of course is tantamount to cheating me of >RM500. So our “friendly, sweet-talking please-don’t-yell-at-me empty-promising” Mr Wilson Lim – some guy in charge of accounts or something – kept saying a refund will be made, but of course that never happened. In a way I am glad they have wound up so now I would stop getting charged. Now I have to contact Jabatan Insolvensi to see if I can get my claims, but I am seriously not hopeful due to the long waiting list and not looking forward to procedures.

I think Izzi was all out to cheat customers. These people should be charged in court.

Ask your bank to cancel the autodebit.
(probably Izzi didn’t inform the bank).

For the benefit of others looking for refund, who is Mr. Wilson Lim? His contact number?

Mr Wilson Lim was some accounts guy working in Izzi last time, and was handling my refund. But after all the promises, the refund never came. He would not be working there anymore since Izzi is no more. I will have deal with Jabatan Insolvensi or the parent company now.

hi alan, do you mean its impossible to take back the money from wilson? I contacted Jbt insolvensy before, they asked me to contact biro pengaduan awam, but they didnt do anything after that, just said already went to the building and izzi tutup pintu already.

Alan says Izzi sucks April 25, 2011

My refund from Izzi was and issue which began earlier on, nothing to do with it now being insolvent. I terminated my izzi account in 2010 because I signed up with another ISP. I had some early issues trying to get them to terminate the account, and in the end Wilson finally acknowledged and confirmed my account termination in July 2010. However, Izzi CONTINUED to autodebit my account after July 2010 right up to March 2011 or so. In between, I have been speaking to the same Wilson and he kept saying that they will stop charging and refund me the charges after July 2010, but that never happened until March 2011 or when they closed shop.

I trusted them to handle my cancellation and refund issue properly, so I only called them occassionally to follow up and yelled at them and threatened them to report to press or MCMC or whatever. I admit I should have followed up on this more closely, I never expected a company could do such a thing. Admittedly, I am also at fault for not personally showing up at their office personally to deal with it. And now they are closed forever.

Yes I should have at least called the bank to try to cancel, but I didn’t, my mistake. Anyway, I if I am not wrong, the bank only accepts autodebit cancellation instruction from the merchant, not the customer e.g. for gym and yoga memberships, once you sign up for autodebit, you have to instruct the gym to cancel the autodebit and they will inform the bank.

mustack April 26, 2011

hi guys , just yesterday i read this blogspot and i went today, for your information the office close for sure, and there is NOBODY to assist you, and there was phone number they paste on the door, i tried to call them and they never pick up.
since two weeks i was busy with work and i thought my laptop has problem and i called the laptop compant and they say no problem, i called the izzi customer service many times but nobody pick up…..i was very late to know your blogspot my friend……my izzi subscription ends at Sept2011( still have five months), this really sucks, no any officer care about this and do anything. No choice all the money gone….hard to trust any company nowdays….even any officer…i guess we have to live by cheated in this country

uLikmayA bLogger April 28, 2011

@Mustack, thanks for the info. Look like there’s no point to go to Izzi’s office now.

Don’t blame yourself, blame the company. Not much different if you read the post earlier. Those who went there at early stage only managed to fill up the claim form and submit. I don’t think they got the refund money yet until today (my guess). It was more like a ‘window dressing’ to me.

@Alan, I still think you can instruct the bank to cancel the autodebit. You have the power over your own bank account, not other people.

Anyway, are sure it is autodebit plan? Maybe what actually Izzinet did was charged you one whole year subscription lumpsum one time and what you are paying actually the monthly payment to the bank. (sorry if i am wrong on that)

If you have instructed Izzinet but your account still been debited then look like the company was bordering on cheating and it is a serious issue.

Reading a few of the comments of those whose ‘kena’, I smell “I’m giving up, let them take my hard earned money”.

Izzinet is not a company you can called fly by night company. To operate internet service you need special licence from Multimedia Ministry. The people involved didn’t disappeared to other countries (or did they? : PI commented here the directors are gone). The parent company, Mobif is a public listed company. They are the main shareholder. Shareholder should be the one who is responsible.

Based on Tionce comment, it look like nobody can help. She already contacted Jabatan Insollvensi and Biro Pengaduan Awam. Now where we want to ‘mengadu’? Polis? Kementerian Komunikasi? Biro Pengaduan MCA?

In that case I only can suggest you all gather resources. For a start someone here (anybody?) can create a Facebook Page and gather as many as possible whose has the same case. Go gather and discuss there of what to do. You might find a lawyer there or some useful suggestions.

Piesee,
Why Wilson promised to send you the form AFTER his work but not DURING his work?
Got overtime claim meh?

When Wilson said to you “no one will back to the office”, he meant “no one will EVER back to the office”. It closed for good.

I also have a few months left for my subscription. Is there anything significant/substantial that we can do? not for the sake of refund (based on comment from you guys), but for justice? for a starter, i’ll facebook about it and ask my friends to pass along, hopefully something worthy will come out.
